As
the seasons change, each one brings a new splendour of
nature - green spring buds, summer's dark foliage and
blue waters, a riot of fall's beautiful colours,
winter's majestic snow-laden trees. What a challenge for
the artist: to capture these wonderful fleeting moments
of the seasons and to communicate them in a keepsake
painting. This is what inspires me to paint! Fascinated
by the achievements made by the pioneers of this area, I
also enjoy portraying these moments from the past -
logging scenes, horse-drawn wagons and shanties. |
Ron was born in
Glasgow, Scotland, where at an early age, his father instilled
in him a love of drawing. His interest in art and art-related
ventures has been his main pleasure since that time and he has
never stopped learning. His formal art training included a brief
time at the Glasgow School of Art and after emigrating to
Canada, he attended art classes at Sir Sandford Fleming College
in Haliburton.
Rural
living in the Algonquin/Muskoka area for 40 years has fostered
his love of nature and inspired him to paint the wildlife,
landscapes and rugged beauty of the area. Ron works in acrylics,
oils and watercolours from his home-based studio - Spruce
Bog Studio - outside Huntsville and he paints many of his
works "en plein air".
Ron is the owner
of Northart Supplies, a full-service art supplies and framing
store in downtown Huntsville which he opened in 1995
(1.800.628.5651). Ron has been active in a number of local arts
associations such as Muskoka Arts and Crafts (MAC), the
Arts
Council - Haliburton Highlands and the Huntsville
Art
Society (HAS).
He has participated in many shows locally and throughout the
Province. Three recent awards for his work are the
"People's Choice Award" at the Huntsville Art
Society's Valentine Show in 2007 and an "Award of
Excellence" at the Muskoka Arts and Crafts Spring Show in
both 2006 and 2010. |
